How can I change the startup splash screen image?... the one that is the white-yellowish background with the feather? It's is painfully bright when used in a dark room. I REALLY hate it. Thanks for help in advance. Note; I'm not talking about the Xfce splash screen, but the one that displays prior to loading Xfce. I don't know which component is responsible for that part of the bootup sequence.

... in a dark room. That light yellowish startup screen with the feather is shock to my pupils. How can I change this image? thanks.
This thread is related but doesn't seem to work for LL v3.0

I'm not at home right now, but I believe the path is now /usr/share/plymouth/themes/liteboot/

Code:
gksudo thunar /usr/share/plymouth/themes/liteboot/background.png
That's the one that has to be edited/replaced.
The rest of the steps are the same as the other post.
Edit: Yep, Jerry beat me to it 8)
My eyes thank you! ;D

Your eyes are welcome ;D
I changed mine a little while ago as well, in Gimp I went Colours > Invert, made it a nice deep blue.

I tried this solution but it only changes the image on shutdown.
On boot it is still the same bright image ???
edit: forget it. I did't update the initramfs ;D

Same here. I replaced that background.png file and it had no effect at boot up. thoughts?
[edit] didn't see the above step. trying now...
Code:
sudo update-initramfs -u
>> update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-24-generic
