Jerry, the 3 Com card worked on LL2.0 32 standard Kernel. Upgrades through the LL2 version again without problems. At 2.8 started to play with Kernels .Reason for then updating to Kernel to 4.0 and then later to 4.5.0 was really to see where the " Break" point was - future proofing this 2003 machine.
Hence surprised that LL3.0 appears to have a problem?? Certainly on Live DVD anyway. Use this old A10 as my email back up (work) and therefore reluctant to do clean install unless confident that wifi card will work straight off.
Next machine to upgrade (32 bit) will be the work desktop which is LAN connected but will only do that when I have mastered the Google Earth work around. GE integral part of work tasks.
@newtusmaximus, looks like those drivers were dropped in 16.04 You can get the driver from here - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1694350 and install it after you've installed 3.0 Better still, I would try this first - look in /lib/firmware in 2.8 and copy the following highlighted files (all starting with 'isl') to a USB:
Then copy them into your installed 3.0 in /lib/firmware, and reboot (make sure the files are owned by root).
That should work
Trying to install on my laptop (with a brand new SSD). I checked auto login but now it wants me to log in. No problem. I get a login screen that has "Other" at the top (with a drop down menu type arrow that does nothing), a place for my user name then a place for my password. When I enter my pass word I get "Incorrect password, please try again". I KNOW I'm entering the correct password. I've even tried to re-install LL 3.0 (just to make sure I got the right pass word) and it still won't take it.
I must have been dreaming earlier when I thought I could minimise the File Operation Progress box on LL 3.0 by copying to or from another volume other than the system one.
Which means the info I posted earlier isn't correct, my apologies :-[
I guess I had the window/s closed as it will minimise via the panel button when the windows are closed, but it won't otherwise no matter what the source or destination.
The minimise option/button has been removed.
In LL 2.8 it's got a minimise button.
But in LL 3.0 it's missing & the right click option to minimise from the panel button is greyed out.
On my setup (MSI L1350D Notebook) LL 3.0 boots faster from a USB install than my 2.8 does from the hard drive, I'm finding it runs faster than Knoppix 7.6 that's installed on an indentical USB stick, which I think is quite an achievement as nothing I've installed to USB has gone anywhere near Knoppix in speed until now....sweet 8)
