How to view active Wifi , from LL2.4

I would like to view the active Wifi carriers with in range of my laptop . I have a Dell D620, with Broadcom 1430 card installed. I have 2 extra PCMCIA adapter cards , that I used before I solved my Broadcom problems. One is  Belkin, the other TrendNet. I used to use the Belkin supplied soft ware to do this in Win XP . Is there a Linux way to do this. Thanks Darrell.

Insert one the cards and open a terminal and supply us with a

inxi -F

Then insert the other and do the same.

Your looking to find available SSID's?
Just like in WinXP (the default wireless) clicking on the WiFi icon will list all available wireless networks..
If you notice in the attached mine has a little lock on it (for VPN)... I'm using 2.6 but very similar in 2.4..


This pic has the antenna style look (internal wireless-my mini) where as my other system (wireless USB) has staggered bars..

This is assuming drivers are loaded (you mention problems solved) and radio is on...
Selecting your wireless will prompt for passcode then should connect...

If you're looking for tools, a quick search yielded Kismet or Wavemon as seen here:  http://askubuntu.com/questions/237777/is...for-ubuntu.

They are both available in Linux Lite via Install/Remove Software (Menu, System, Install/Remove Software).

LinSSID and iwScanner are other options if you're looking for wifi analyzer tools.

In Windows, I was familiar with NetStumbler, Wifi Info View, and Xirrus.  In Android, I'm familiar with Wifi Analyzer.  If you do a search on Linux alternatives to any of those tools, you'll find some good options.  It's how I got the ones I've listed so far.

I use LinSSID on my HP laptop,
it seems to work very well.
But it appears only available via PPA.?

You do have to give it your password, it runs with privileges.

Thanks , I only wanted to see what was running /on the air to determine if a connection was possible, thanks to all for the info, I played with WireShark a while back in Win 7 , I also played with a USB RTL Dongle  but that only supplies a spec/an type info. Thanks so much for all the help and source info.
Also sorry to be such a newb , I am/have suffered brain damage.I had a mind once, for real, ppl tell me so.
Now got lots to read.
