I had a suspend problems on all kernels I ever tried. On my ASUS F5VL laptop.
I tried these 3.15.0 and 4.0.0. kernels. No luck. I reverted back to the default Lite 2.4 kernel. My laptop automatically wakes from the suspend. So I have to type in: echo USB > /proc/acpi/wakeup echo USB2 > /proc/acpi/wakeup Then it stays suspended. BUT! When I resume from suspend, the suspend no longer works and I have a excesive CPU usage, around 45-100% "kworker" process is eating the CPU, and some another "K" process... I hoped it would be fixed in linux 4.0.0. :/ That's something you guys probably can't fix, right? Anyway, kernel 3.15.0 always gave me a TSC calibration failed, and my Wi-Fi didn't work. By the way, what does this mean? This should NOT be tested on your everyday machine unless you know how to remove the kernel from a tty. I removed the kernels over Lite Tweaks (btw it always gave me "error: KERNELS", is that normal?), is there something else I should do to revert my system to original state before I installed these kernels? I don't know what "tty" is... Is it normal on a GNU/Linux to have a glitchy suspend? Or is it just my laptop? I tried many distros, all had the same problem. How it works for you all?

It means you shouldn't use these kernels unless you know how to get out of a tight spot if the sh#t hits the fan. This is why we put that warning in. Unless you need a specific kernel for a specific reason, the stock kernel that ships with LL should be fine for most peoples needs. New kernels are only useful if you have brand new hardware or are using for example a new file system like btrfs, or you're waiting on a specific patch etc etc. Cheers.

And I just install them in case they speed up features and supply security fixes.
Some kernels boot faster and use less ram than others. But I am not shy when it comes to testing kernels. I always keep a good backup.

Have installed Kernel 4.0 on my Acer Aspire V5-PG
Can only enter in recovery mode USB not recognised, Wifi drvers not working, Mouse not showing
Hello!
Welcome to Linux Lite, and welcome to the forums. Your need to reboot from recovery mode most likely means that the 4.0 Linux Lite kernel probably won't work for you. I have machines here that will not run the 3.19.0 kernel, which I believe is the highest Linux Lite kernel currently available. I had to revert back to a kernel where everything worked. You will probably have to 'fall back' to the previous kernel. Boot from recovery mode, and the misbehaving kernel can then be uninstalled in Synaptic Package Manager (Install/Remove Software)... 73 DE N4RPS Rob A gun in your hand is worth more than a whole police force on the phone.
Thanks for that. I was going to ask that very question, so your answer is both helpful and intelligent in its anticipation

New install Jerry on a Dell Optiplex 755 given to me by the local IT dude at City Hall.
Running 4.0 Kernel after initial install. Code: System: Host: misohorny1 Kernel: 4.0.0-linuxlite i686 (32 bit gcc: 4.8.2) Not bad for a freebie. I added ram and wifi and 2TB drive and it works OK on Lite 2.4 just fine.

Hello!
I now have one machine (Samsung RV515) now running 4.0 kernel. So far, so good... 73 DE N4RPS Rob A gun in your hand is worth more than a whole police force on the phone. |
