In something more than a nutshell, Grub Customizer is a GUI for GRUB that allows you to change the default boot selection, change how long it waits to load the default selection, and to rename/reorder your boot menu choices as you see fit.
You can also change the colors and fonts for the GRUB menu. However, I never change the font, because doing so can cause unexpected cosmetic results.
If you install grub2-splashimages along with it, you can add a number of different backgrounds to your GRUB menu. The images get installed into the /usr/share/images/grub directory.
