We're not including that project anymore. I've been looking at a new approach for a Control Center, but it's too early to early to release any information yet.

Too bright for me but big improvement over default in 3.0. I can easily change it though. Can the system information "conky" be moved to the center of the desktop?

Yes, conky is of course editable. Make a backup first (/home/user/.conky/widget), change:

alignment bottom_right

to whatever you like, reference - http://conky.sourceforge.net/config_settings.html see 'alignment'
