Just finished the upgrade from LL 3.2 to 3.4 and I would like to thank all the people who contributed for this awesome release!! The only problem found is that on 3.2 my ram on boot was around 300-400mb with no apps opened now its 900+mb and with opera open 1gb+ .. I hope this issue would be solved!

I also noticed that the ram usage on 3.4 is higher then on 3.2.

Replaced 2.8 with a fresh install of 3.4. With a separate /home partition, most of my settings and all my data were kept as I wanted. I'd been playing with a 3.2 virtual machine for sometime, as well as a hard install of the 3.4 beta on some older hardware, so I had notes on all the changes I wanted to make. The whole process went smoothly and took less than two hours. Everything appears to be working well.

Thanks to all for the great system!

When you upgrade to 3.4, you may find your system starting to use more swap again. That's because it may have reset the 'vm.swappiness' value back to the default value of 60. If you got lots of RAM, suggest you change it back to a low value (like 10).

Do a 'cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness' from a terminal to check its value.

To humdinger70: thanks for tip. Installed LL 3.4 on an extra machine that has 8gb ram. As you said, swappiness was 60 & I changed it to 10. Thanks again.

Thanks for the tip! But the issue still exists! Changed the swap value to 10 on my laptop and still have 900mb-1gb ram usage!  :-[
