So I want to download steam but when the package

Are you installing Steam from here?
Menu > All > Install Additional Software

For my password I cant type in the window. It doesn't even recognize the keyboard (laptop)

What happens if you enter the password and hit enter? I'm not sure exactly what you're seeing but sometimes when entering a password in linux nothing is displayed on the screen, not even dots.
