Followed what you said with the Control Panel settings.
Mine are the same as those you listed.
Moved ‘Use System Defaults’ between left and right. Saw the pop up message about next time login.
Logged out and logged in, and its exactly the same, with the LL Terminal still on US layout.
Then I moved the ‘Use System Defaults’ to left, ie. off, where it remains (no pop up message).
The result is that the LL Terminal is now UK layout, without logging out and in again.
In other words the ‘system’ layout is still US, but the ‘system’ setting is not used by either the LL Terminal or other apps.
With regard to what version to use, I’ll be trying 5.8 as you suggest, and I note that both yourself and Jerry are indicating 5.x.
I’ll provide an update message when I’ve done the new install and got some predictable and hopefully stable results.
