Problem with Videocard and Wifi adapter drivers

Hello!

I assume that the machine is:
Laptop Alienware M17x Nebula Red, Intel Core i7-820QM 1.73GHz, 6GB, 128GB SSD, Ati Radeon HD5870 1GB.
This is the only match I could find.
If this is the case, it's a very good machine.

This is what I would do:
Scenario 1
1. Keep the default installation video drivers.
2. Update the network chipset drivers.
3. Check if all went OK and the connection speed is the one stated by the ISP provider, on your internet services contract. Never expect a high speed on WiFi, regardless the bla-bla of any marketing campaign. This is technology, and has nothing to do with the marketing goals.

I really doubt your speed connection is slowed down by Linux. I'd rather suspect faulty or intentional Windows utilities faked reports on speed connection. It's a marketing bubble.
Use online speed testing services, more than one, and consider the average value.
WiFi speed, is always at most 30% of your WIRED connection.
Use a wired connection and check the speed.
