Did by any chance the kernel get updated too? Cause this oftens happens when a new kernel is installed thus replacing the one virtualbox was running with. You have to install a new dkms module for virtualbox and that should be it. Look under synaptic for dkms, you should be able to find it there. Another solution would be to boot from the previous kernel; restart your pc and in the grub screen select "advance options for linux lite" and there select the previous kernel, once you boot you can if you wish to, remove the newer kernel.
