I found Krita to be too slow and kind of sluggish on my old e5300 processor; it felt like maybe it was a Java application. I also really, really did not like that the open file dialog had no image preview of the file you want to open. Krita seems aimed mostly at painters, with image manipulation a secondary goal - great for some people, but not for me.
For me, Pinta is a better choice. It's much faster, and it actually behaves a lot more like what I'm used to with Photoshop than either Gimp or Krita. It's not as heavy-duty as Photoshop, but for the limited amount of stuff I might do on this computer it works really well.
