ran "sudo apt-get clean" nine times, just to be really anal
ran "sudo apt-get purge skype"
which yielded:
"Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package skype"
Navigated through Menu>System>Lite Software
Selected Install Software
Five packages were listed. Skype was NOT among them.
Dropbox, iDevices..., Password..., Remote..., & Teamviewer are. But, alas and as always, NO Skype.
No point in going on from there to the inevitable Error Log. Maybe there's a clue in "Unable to locate package skype"? Maybe not!
I can live without Skype, but I cannot trust an OS that cannot update, especially Security Updates. Any alternative suggestions? 8) jerry
