Just in case, adding my two cents.
When you type yuor password, check that each letter enters a caracter.
Just in case you have a key on the keyboard that doesnt work (broken or some juice was given to the nice keyboard by your 9 yr old without you knowing.
)
Addng this since I got this problem with two users in the last two weeks.
