Update Problem with MergeList

Hi, newbie here....

Without NVIDIA installed, my laptop will not view videos with VLC. I install the NVIDIA ver.340 driver, then I can view videos but have hashsum errors whenever I do updates and A LOT of system crashes... So I go back to the original driver.
This last time I installed the NVIDIA driver, things seemed better (after the latest config file update), but now when I do a "Install Updates" I get the following
