Thanks ! This other topic your pointed to and the change of the distro-version name from xenial to citrine for the current linux lite by editing those LinuxLite specific repo's solved it:

Case closed one would think. But on reading the rest of the thread I noted Jerry replied that it was / is difficult what caused it.
Perhaps I can help? I used a fresh ISO this week and ran into the problem nevertheless and it must be awkward for all new installs to tell the (new) user to edit .list and .save files as (pseudo) root. In trying to solve it myself before posting I found in my trial with Synaptic an error-message about a missing Release file and the resulting inability to authenticate the data blocking the use of that repo because of the security implications. Perhaps that is the location where this problem originates and can be fixed for once and all?
