Stopping Pulseaudio:
"Or maybe: Menu->Settings->Settings-manager->System->Session and Startup->Tab Application and autostart->scroll to Pulseaudio."
THIS SAVED ME SO MUCH TROUBLE!
Now I can hear VLC and Youtube without having to download Google Chrome.
NEVER BEFORE HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO USE FIREFOX AND ACTUALLY HEAR YOUTUBE!
It was explained to me that Firefox no longer supported whatever Youtube uses for sound and that I was better off to use Google Chrome as it was the
proprietor of Youtube in a merger. After trying 7 other distros to get my sound back, I recalled another conversation in another forum of another linux distro that it was best for my particular sound card to disable Pulseaudio.
I had sound from VLC at first but Youtube was choppy. THEN I LOST ALL SOUND WHEN I INSTALLED UPDATES FROM THE MAIN MENU! Even Chrome would not support Youtube audio. So after 3 days of trying distros and forum searching I was sent this :
"Or maybe: Menu->Settings->Settings-manager->System->Session and Startup->Tab Application and autostart->scroll to Pulseaudio."
In VLC I switched to ALSA sound use S/PDIF when available, HDA Intel MID, ALC272X Analog front speakers and disabled Pulseaudio from main menu and now everything is audible. Even Youtube with Firefox after a clean LL 2.0 install and recent updates, without Google Chrome.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this solution to those using older Acer Aspire One netbooks.
Mine is a AO751h-1279. Linux Lite 2.0 gives me 7 hours+ 40 minutes on a full charge on a 9 cell aftermarket battery.
Not really sure where to post this, so I will post it here and hope some forum Admin might find an appropriate place to post it where this fix can best reach the most people.
Thanks rijnsma
