Thanks to both of you for suggesting I check out startup and sessions. I had a chance to go there today on that computer and fix the problem. I actually did this before I saw Peejay's reply and ended up simply going to one of the tabs within startup & sessions (forgot to make note of which one so as to indicate it here). Anyway when you tab across and read what's inside each section there is an option to "clear saved sessions" which I did.
I did not have to untick any other boxes (I actually checked on another computer which I put Linux lite on as well that didn't have any saved sessions to compare and it had the box ticked that Peejay mentioned) and presto I'm not getting that box coming up about the session.
