How To Dual-Boot Install LinuxLite On a MacBook Pro?
#3

My friend has an older MacBook Pro (late 2008) and Apple came out with an upgrade to Sierra.
I called Apple yesterday and they told me this laptop is not qualified for any more upgrades.
So, I have been working on my friend for over a year to get him to move to Linux and he is now
keen to the idea.

I've never installed to a Mac computer, let alone dual boot. Can anyone either instruct me on
how to do so or point me in the right direction to find out how to do so? Thanks!

I don't know why you would want to dual boot on a system not receiving updates any more. But I guess it takes all kinds.
I consider a dual booter more hassle to take care of and it just complicates things unnecessarily.

So. Ask your friend if pulling the Mac OS hard drive is a possibility and replacing it with a blank SSD hard drive, I picked up a used Mac SSD at 180 gigs for 15 bucks made by OCZ. It came out of a destroyed Mac laptop. That way your friend still has his Mac install. Pristine and not touched. Plus the added SSD is a upgrade that will make that Mac run faster.

Meat and potatoes time.

Ubuntu has been installed on these old MacBooks since 2008. Linux-Lite is basically Ubuntu with makeup and special sauce included.
Installer may look different. But it should be easy peasy to install Linux-Lite following all the Ubuntu threads on Macbook.
