Torreydale is correct, you can use Gmail also for your hotmail account if you need to stick to it. Meaning, you not only can receive your emails there, but you also can send email with your hotmail address as sender.
In saying all that, also my first post, I switched over to my own domain and therefore personal email address ages ago to avoid situations like yours, being dependent on one of these "free" email providers. Between 30c and $1 a month for that is worth it for me.
That doesn't mean I can't use these "free" email providers interface. As with your hotmail address I can also manage my personal email address with Gmail if I want to. Best of both worlds
