However, if the default behavior (= no feedback) does add severe confusion/frustration to new users, then I would rather see some improvements in educating them about the default behavior on Linux than changing it. For example by adding adequate entries to the Help Manual or providing more verbose prompts with password requests.

- giving away the length of the password that easily (security)
