Some good news. I accidentally discovered (while tinkering with Thunar dependencies today) that Windows10 home has apparently added the missing support for file sharing and remote desktop. I discovered today running troubleshooter while setting up an ad hoc network on the W10 OS. I had it all briefly working (about a half an hour or so) with a LL3.0 box on the other end through my wifi router. I was able to configure it all using the help manual file sharing conventions on the LL end, but the Windows instructions in the help manual don't really apply to the redundancy in Windows10. I used the GUI entirely on both machines, as I like to test these things for user friendliness, and Remmina worked briefly. I'm sure that the little woman and her grandson have some of the grouping permissions messed up on the Windows10 box, and that's why settings were discarded from Windows10 after reboot of both boxes even though I made the changes as administrator. I am pretty optimistic that file sharing and remote desktop will work on Windows10 home, and not just pro, now though. A tutorial will have to be specific about Win10 redundancy issues, and group usages. Once I narrow it all down a bit more I'll come up with something simple. It does work though. Also note that Samba is a bit messed up, and I had to change a few things, and I'm not satisfied with the security conventions yet, but a half hour is a half hour. Yippee Skippee. Dinner time. I quit.
