Time to learn new tricks
#4
Hello!

My pleasure. In a word, yes.

In Linux, a program called Samba allows files to be exchanged between two Linux machines, or between a Windows machine and a Linux box. The Linux network share will be seen as a network share in Windows, also, and vice versa - at least that's how things work HERE.

With an Linux Lite laptop and a Windows 8.1 netbook side-by-side, sharing the same wireless router, I was able to follow the procedures in the Linux Lite Help Manual and successfully set up shares in both directions. To make things easier on myself, I decided to share the entire /home/%U folder. This is what Windows folks are used to seeing, and lets me share everything that isn't hidden. (Hidden folders and files are the next project.)

For me, the trick was getting the Windows side set up properly. Setting up Windows 7/8/8.1's folders through Network and Sharing Center is somewhat different than Windows XP. Now to resolve sharing issues I'm having with some of the OTHER Windows PCs I have around here...
