Screen Resolution got Jacked up and now can't get into LL

I have not found a solution to this issue, It seems kernels that are newer do not support the 340 driver and earlier.
*research done here= http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=118862  and other posts saying to revert to 304.
I have had been purging nvidia several times, so time v.s. $60 for a cheap new card.
I have opted just to buy a newer video card. Thanks for the help everyone.

Update

I have managed to get the Nvidia driver installed !



I had to do this first-
sudo apt-get purge nvidia
Then rebooted

After a reboot I followed these steps-

Open a terminal and enter each line seperately-

Code:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install nvidia-340

I hope this helps others. Apparently the Nvidia driver 340.xx is only suppoted up to kernel 3.18.0-xx
The GTX 280 I have is considered end of life/Legacy and Nvidia has decided to not provide updates to it for newer Linux kernels.
