I have not found a solution to this issue, It seems kernels that are newer do not support the 340 driver and earlier.
*research done here= http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=118862 and other posts saying to revert to 304.
I have had been purging nvidia several times, so time v.s. $60 for a cheap new card.
I have opted just to buy a newer video card. Thanks for the help everyone.
