Not going well- I can boot 2.8 using  usb drive OK but it very slow

I can log on to Wifi normally

Snag 2--- cannot update L L  - cannot download  Message----  couldn't fetch the package cache information lists --
cannot load chromium using Lite Software
Tried using Synaptic 

Tried 32bit but thats the same

Even on my Samsung, that has been running 2.6 and 2.8 since it was release OK ,  i tried to install chromium but get the same problem

Just managed to Install Chromium using Synaptic  but Update and Lite Software still got problems -
