LL install freezes halfway through the install...

Linux newbie here and I seem to have a similar problem to glin22 - I get to the point of installing to hard disk and then the machine freezes with a message about closing the message window and letting the bug reporter come into play.  Unfortunately, I can't close the window because the machine is frozen and I have to turn it off.  This is a newly downloaded 64bit 2.4, checksum verified, on a clean new DVD+R. I look forward to comments from the team.
