I still haven't found anything, except that many people recommend keeping a partition of OSX to keep firmware updates, mostly they cite battery life help. Well, this computer's battery failed quite some time ago and was replaced with a cheap China battery which is also failing but I'm not going to replace it until it dies once the power cord is removed, and by then maybe I will give up on this 8-year old computer.
I'm hoping it's not a firmware issue?
It really seems like it does "wake," i.e., I see the login screen, but then something interrupts it and it goes back to an unwakable sleep. I does make noise like it's powering down when I press the power button, then I have to do it again to turn it back on.
Honestly, I'm not that techie so my solution now is to install a new distro that will make waking from sleep "just work." Of course, the last DVD this computer made was the Linux Lite disc I made -- I can read but no longer write discs now. This Mac is also one of the apparently *hard* ones to get to boot from USB. I've tried several methods.
Looks like I will have to beg a friend to burn me a few live CDs until I find one that plays nice with this hunk of plastic. Seems faster than trying to figure out how to mount the ISO from the hard drive (too complex for me) and figuring out how to "bless" the stupid USB without OSX. Still kinda hoping for some help today, though.
