[UNSOLVED-Closed by Author] Installing 2.2 with LVM and Encryption

Hi Folks,

New to Linux Lite and really like the distro!  I have tried a number of distros in the past several months and have really been impressed with many of them but Linux Lite is where I would like to settle.

I have tried to install the 64 bit on my HP laptop using the options for LVM and Encryption.  In doing so, the installer crashed several times with error.  It says: "Autopartitioning using LVM failed because an error occurred while creating the volume group."

The main question I have is if LVM and Encryption are supported with the distro.  If so, is there something I'm doing wrong?  Before each failed attempt I have run GParted and created a new partition table using my entire hard drive.  I have then formatted it to a FAT32 partition then ran the installer.  In using the same practice installing Mint 17 there were no glitches.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have never done it my self.
But if you go to the Menu > Help Manual > "Installing Linux Lite" and scroll down.
There is a note on "not" doing it during the actual Install, not sure of the reason.?

Note: If you want to encrypt your home folder, do not select the option 'Encrypt the new Linux installation for security' instead, please follow these instructions

Which points/links you to a procedure to do it after install.

Thanks for the reply and yes, I did find that in the Help Section.  That isn't what I'm looking for...

When you set up Encryption and LVM during the install of say Ubuntu or it's official spins you are allowed to choose the options during the install when picking what to do with the HDD and other OS partitions on the machine.  If these option are chosen, you are required to enter a password at boot that decrypts the HDD.

There may be a way to do it post install but I'm not close to knowledgeable enough to attempt it but I'm thinking I can do it during the install by manually partitioning the drive.  I just need to find a good tutorial to do so.

Anyone else have some thoughts?

Hello Scott,

Sorry for the late reply!  I took a read through the handbook and that gives really good explaination for the LVM stuff but not the encryption.  Because of the work I do and the nature of the files I have on my laptop I want to make sure I have as much front-end security as possible.  My wife had used the distro for about a week and just loved it but I made a switch to another distro that fit her "just coming from Windows" situation and that I could install and secure so we both had the same OS.  Did so as it is easier when she has a question it's easy to answer and let her "do it" on her machine.

We would both like to use Linux Lite but can't with this installation issue.

Not sure how to modify the Subject Line for this...it's not solved but for the time being, abandoned by the original author.

you can edit the Subject line for the thread, by using the "Modify" link to the right of your first post in
the thread.
Then in the editing page altering the Subject line to a new one to suit.
