Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Upgrade on Linux Lite 3.8
#1
Upon booting up my LL3.8 laptop, I got a pop up that an upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04LTS was available. How advisable is this move to upgrade to Ubuntu whereas I am an LL user? Note that my laptop is 32-bit. Kindly advise. Thanks.

Hi,

From the info I have, 18.04 is 64 bits only and could need to reinstall your system.
If there is a unofficial 32 bits version, I'm not too sure how well it will be supported and for how long.
Does the message offer you to download an ISO? and if so what is the file name?

Cheers!

Linux Lite is based on Ubuntu, so what you are seeing is the upgrade for the base system ONLY. Linux Lite 4.x is 64 bit only so while you could upgrade the base, the parts that make it Linux Lite would not be upgraded and you would end up with a broken system.

Linux Lite 3.8 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 I believe and will be supported for a few more years, but if you want to upgrade to the latest 18.04 you will have to move to another distro for a 32 bit system.

Yes LL is based on Ubuntu but LL wouldn't prompt to upgrade Ubuntu, let alone across architectures (32/64).
I too have a LL 3.8 32bit, ran updates to confirm - nothing for ubuntu

Could be something was installed that added the Ubuntu repo's or the repo's were modified for a PPA or ????...
Any how, I wouldn't suggest updating...

Other may chime in... but that's my plugged nickle Smile

Ignore it. You've obviously installed something that has dragged in that package too.

Hello Everyone. I have had so much education on this whole thing in one instance. Thank you all for sharing so passionately. From what I gather, I have to ignore this notification to upgrade for now and so it will be. Thanks again.  8)
