Kernel package trouble
#1
I have suddenly been having warnings about broken packages in LL 3.4 and assumed I had run out of room and needed to remove old kernels via the tweak tool. When I did this, I got a worrying message that instructed me to come here and paste it into a new post. I hope that this is fixable, and that I can understand what's going wrong...

Oh, I have tried apt-get -f install but I just get similar failure messages.

This is preventing me from making space. Remain baffled by mentions of broken pipes and packages...

I thought I should also mention that running LL update says that my system is up to date.

What is the output of:

Code:
uname -a

Your Forum profile says Linux Lite 1.0.6

The output is:
Linux jonathan-UX31LA 4.4.0-97-generic #120-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 19 17:28:18 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

My version on this machine is LL3.4 - the profile info is quite old, but I am running LL on at least three machines here, I think all different iterations.

I first worried something might be wrong when I ran the Lite Upgrade utility and it said I had the latest version. If I am running 3.6 I don't know how it happened...

Try:

Code:
sudo apt-get install -f

then reboot and report kernel version again.

Same thing. I received a message to try running autoremove, and after this ran the broken dependencies error was gone from Synaptic. I was able to remove a few of the oldest kernels  to create space and then update ran without error messages. Everything appeared to be fine, system up to date message. But on reboot the system does not recognize any network devices so I cannot get the laptop online. I booted the machine from a DVD and the test OS had no trouble going online so there is no hardware failure. But I cannot find a way to get LL to recognize network devices now.
