Update screen is blank
#1
I've been getting a blank "update screen" for the last few days when I use "Install updates".  When I update through the command line, I do see stuff to be updated.  The install function is doing its job, the only problem is that whatever needs to be updated won't show up in GUI mode.(at the end of the process, the update window does show me what's been updated).  I only see this in the machine described in the left profile.  No problem in VM 3.4 or in Lenovo LL 2.8

Hello bonnevie,

Please check your firewall rules , delete any shown.
The updates screen works okay for me, had updates today, manual had a issues, so hence suggestion, to rule it out.

Has the /tmp folder permissions changed in that machine? a blank page hints to being unable to read the list created in the /tmp folder by Lite Updates. Lite Updates creates a temporary updateslist.txt file in your /tmp directory. The easiest way to check this is by running Lite Updates and look for that file in the /tmp directory before clicking "Update Now".
Do you have the latest lite-software version installed?

I would go with the basics first:

1- Make sure the latest lite-software version is installed in your machine.
2- Check whether the /tmp folder is writable and that the updateslist.txt file is being created as mentioned above.
3- Reinstall lite-software from Synaptic just in case something went south with your previous package install.

Sorry for seeming stupid and preferring Linux - I just don't know any better.

Thanks you both for your quick reply.  It turned out my firewall had no specific rule, but it was off.  As soon as I turned it back on, my update screen came back on as you can see. I would have never thought these things could be related.  Now If I can find a way to mark this thread solved....
