Live Kernel Patching

If you're running the 3.x series of Linux Lite, you may be able to patch your kernel, on up to 3 PCs, without rebooting, using the procedure at this link.

When you try to do this, following the instructions on Canonical's web page - doesn't work. When you enter "sudo snap install canonical-livepatch" into terminal you get an error "sudo: snap: command not found". Watching the video on their web site, and what is suppose to happen, doesn't seem to happen in Linux Lite. I kept all the information & my key code if anyone gets this to work. I will say, it's a great idea. Would be VERY useful. Just so you know, I am using LL 3.0, x64, but I'm wondering if this only works in the offical Ubuntu?

Maybe snap has to be installed first.

I thought the exact same thing. So I looked snap up in synaptic, installed it - nothing. I realize this is just a guess, but since Linux Lite is a heavily modified OS, maybe it just doesn't work in LL. I have an install disk for Xubuntu 16.04, I'll give that a try tomorrow, or day after.

Your profile says you're running Linux Lite 2.8 32bit.  If that isn't correct, please update it.

Thank you Jerry. Worked perfectly. A very useful tool. To torreydale, sorry about not updating my profile. I just recently got a nice 2nd hand HP Pavillion Elite HPE-541F with 8gb memory. As it came with Windows 7 I decided to keep that & install LL 3.0 as well. I'll make sure to change my profile again when LL 3.2 comes out November 1st.

After it's installed I thought it wasn't working. For it to start up you need to reboot. After that open a terminal and enter "canonical-livepatch status". I had updated the kernel to the latest 4.4.0-x by synaptic & the livepatch command works. A very good feature for LL if you want the latest version of your kernel. Don't know if they'll come out with a 32bit version. With the talk of 32bit support being phased out, maybe not.

I know I am being lazy by not doing a DuckDuckGo search for an answer.  :-[ Anyway, why would I want to do what ever this is? Why not just wait for regular update from LL or version update?
