Are you able to copy them to another drive ?
It could be a permissions issue, but i would need more information about the issue. How are you trying to delete the files exactly ?

Trying to delete files by right clicking on mouse shows a ghost image of delete so cannot use that. Using delete key on keyboard does nothing.
But you are right, when I try to delete a folder (as opposed to a single image) I get the warning "permission denied". Thanks

Can you right click and confirm permissions...
Perhaps permissions to these files were modified or the account trying to delete the files is not the same as the creating account.. Or a restricted account... Update: Should see something like this - the account your accessing would need Write access...

What is the path of the folder you're trying to remove?
When you open the File Manager (Thunar), can you right click on the folder in question an select "Open as Administrator'?

Why not just [open as administrator] You can do almost anything . Oh and be careful while you're there.

OK, have figured it out now. Opened files as administrator, selected files to delete, hit delete and they were gone, fantastic. When folders were emptied it was easy to delete these too.
Thanks to all for your help.
