I think I read on this forum that you could not upgrade from 2.8 to 3.0 because you have to reinstall 3.0. (I couldn't find it searching.) Why would something like what is this article http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/04/how-t...-16-04-lts for upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS work?  ???

It would save having to install/uninstall software, themes, icons, etc.

The Lite Welcome application explains upgrading from one LTS to another. We are not Ubuntu. Theres no Unity, no Ubuntu updater, no Dash, the list goes on. There a very, very little similarities, hence why it is not recommend to do this on LL.

All the reasons that I use Linux Lite not a 'buntu. I guess I don't understand being based on Ubuntu and not being Ubuntu.  :-[
