Just thought I'd introduce myself
#1
Absolute Linux beginner. Using LL on a Dell D610 Pentium 1.73 with 1GB RAM. Just installed it fresh this week. Installed easily. Recognised wifi immediately. Net is zippy. Plays 1080p youtube w/o problem. This and WP is all I use it for. I'm moving over from XP and can't wait to finally get MS off my back.

I've no idea what I'm doing iro the terminal.  I installed Kingsoft's wps office w/o problem (cut and paste instructions from the web into terminal!) though. Installed fine bar a problem with the extra font symbols for wps writer but that seems to be a wps issue. Found the fonts on the net and dloaded them but not a clue how to install them. I'll post separately about that.

I haven't tried to set up my printer yet.

bye for now, see you around, maybe on Mumble, love the name
Your needs as a small business man migrating from XP interest me but that's for tommorrow, relax and chill out they're all friendly here abouts.

I'm installing win7 into Virtualbox and then installing Office 97 into it, maybe you should do something simular installing with your licensed XP all legal.

What do you think of this video trainer where I install XP into Virtualbox complete with mistakes
it's a 83 MB in size and 30 minutes long.

Hello!

Welcome to Linux Lite. I used to run LL on a D610, before I gave that machine to a friend. I think IT had 2GB installed.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think VirtualBox will run on a D610, as it does not support virtualization. On THAT lappy, it's best to run XP as part as an XP/LL dual boot...

Thanks for the replies. I sorted the wps symbols issue. control+h for hidden files. Check (:

I downloaded printer drivers from Epson  site (XP-305) and it was recognised and works via usb. Never tried wifi option as I don't use it.

Got a problem with intermittent audio on vlc now but I'll google that later.

I needed a good grin this morning UKBrian. Thanks for the mp4 and it brightened my day.

I am going to download it because desert internet speeds are not as quick as you fellas experience.
78MB mp4 download does not seem right but oh well, I'll find out later on.

Edit:  It gave me the whole video at 78MB. Nothing missing. I'm put into a good mood by ti.

Happy trailz to all, Rok
