I don't know if that makes a difference or not.  I've only ever used read-only disks myself and not had problems.

Did some more searching and found this post saying might have something to do with BIOS settings for the CD/DVD drive.  I'm kind of leaning in this direction myself, but who knows?  It's just another guess really.

Another update, got it working on one machine ok, the laptop, used a dvd instead of a cd she tells me  ;D
Lol, what a circus, I thought she was using dvd's as she mentioned early in the process the LL ISO was too large for cd's.
The rewritable's were actually cd's apparently, unless they were bigger than 700MB I have no idea how she got it to fit on cd's, but I'm guessing some of the data was dropped to make it fit, which might have been the cause of the problems.
XP machine might be history, she updated the BIOS after talking to and following the manufacturer's instructions & it won't even POST now...
