[EDIT] This has resolved itself. When the installation started from the direct install option in the boot menu kept hanging, I canceled it. Upon canceling the system booted from the flash drive. I tried installing from the live OS again and this time, it worked.
2011 Macbook Air. Previously had Ubuntu on this machine. I formatted the (sole) SSD, then booted into Linux Lite from USB flash drive. Now trying to install but installation hangs at "Updates and other software", so doesn't even proceed to installation types. Been hanging there for more than 10 mins now.
I also tried direct install from the USB boot menu ... same thing.
So.... what now?

That happens when I select the option to update during installation. Try it without downloading the updates[i] until [i]after Linux Lite has completed the installation and reboot.

I am facing the same problem
Two days back, I tried installing Linux lite as dual boot with win 10 but after being unable to understand partitions and messing them a bit I guess, I decided to wipe everything and install it as only os on my laptop.
But after successful installation it didn't boot up
Only showed black screen with a blinking cursor
So I tried to reinstall Linux lite but now it gets stuck at update and other software screen. I tried leaving it overnight but still it was in the morning.
I tried completely formatting my disk but still it's not working.
I even tried creating partitions like Boot partition, swap partition and home partition but nothing is working.
Now I am left with a blank Laptop with no OS.
My laptop model is lenovo ThinkPad 3000 G410.
Please help me.

A quick search on the LL hardware database gave 4 reports of Lenovo 3000 G410 running LL so there should be a reasonable chance of getting something working.
As the laptop is without OS, the first thing is to get an OS running from live media. Due to the failed attempts, the state of the hard disk should be reviewed using tools on live media and any problems tidied up before attempting to install any OS on it.
To try LL installation again, start by downloading the iso again.
Make sure the download is ok by sum checking the file.
Check the Lenovo BIOS settings related to booting and how secureboot is set (if applicable).
From the live boot review the state of the hard disk and sort it out if necessary.
Follow the OS install instructions carefully. Personally i don't bother with updates at the installation stage.
Making a note of each choice made and record any messages that result.
If problems occur don't continue but seek advice.
LL 5.x would be best, but due to the age of the laptop it might be worth looking at LL v4.x which is supported for a couple of years.
