Lost desktop
#1
After booting up and logon, I noticed a message in the upper right corner.  I cicked on it and my desktop changed.  No deskyop icons opanel and its icons.  Just a flashing message in the upper right saying that my bettery is charging.  This is a laptop and LLOS 5.0 is running from a USB HDD.  The batter for this laptop is dead and I run the PC strictly on AC so the battery will not charge.

I however have no idea how to get out of this.  Shutdown, restart and relogon brings me back to the same point.  I found task manager, but with >200 cryptic tasks listed, I have no @%$! idea what it might be.

please help,

thanks

I am trying to restore a Timeshift snapshot.  I put one on a USB drive that was formatted to Ext4.  Timeshift seems to have forgotten where I put these files  I have tried to reset up TS to use that location, but they still do not show up so I cannot use them to do a restore.  I have highlighted the files and tried to send them to TS, but that still does not work.

Also If I do get this running or restored, is there something I can disable so that the system does not check the battery state.  It seems to me that the system is preserving resources while it tries to recharge a dead battery.

I can go on the internet by running the web browser app.  However there is no sound in anything that should have sound.  I got back my wallpaper, but all attempts to create desktop icons or a panel have had no success.

I did a restore using Timeshift.  It looked like I was in business.  I had my wallpaper at login screen.  I logged in and heard the logon sound and then before the desktop icons showed, it went directly to other wallpaper with no icons or panel.  I have an old snapshot of LLOS 4.8 I might try or just give up on this and start over with Mint.

I got things working fairly well, won't 5.2 come as an update?

Yes, it should. Just give it a time and surely it will come up.

LL3.8 32 bit Dell Inspiron Mini - Atom N270 1.6Ghz - 1GB - Intel Mobile 945GSE Express  -- Shelved
BACK LL5.8 64 bit Dell Optiplex 160 (Thin) - Atom 230 1.6Ghz - 4GB-SiS 771/671 PCIE VGA - Print Server

Thanks for those replies.  Found something else not working correctly.  VLC media player will load into panel, but not open itself or anything else.  How can I reinstall it.  Not sure if an upgrade would fix this.

thanks
