Live Kernel Patching
#11
Quote:After it's installed I thought it wasn't working. For it to start up you need to reboot. After that open a terminal and enter "canonical-livepatch status". I had updated the kernel to the latest 4.4.0-x by synaptic & the livepatch command works. A very good feature for LL if you want the latest version of your kernel. Don't know if they'll come out with a 32bit version. With the talk of 32bit support being phased out, maybe not.

XXX@XXX: $ canonical-livepatch status
kernel: 4.4.0-45.66-generic
fully-patched: true
version: ""

Mine says the same as above, except "fully patched: false" ????
changed from Windows 10 to a REAL OS

Quote:I know I am being lazy by not doing a DuckDuckGo search for an answer.  :-[ Anyway, why would I want to do what ever this is? Why not just wait for regular update from LL or version update?

Linux Lite doesn't automatically patch your kernel as part of the Install Updates utility.

Normally when you patch your kernel, you have to reboot the machine.  With this live patch option, you won't have to reboot.

You might not want it for your PC.  It's typically a nice-to-have for servers, though.

I read above and looked it up with a couple of search engines and still don't really understand it so I am not going to try to do it.

This not for Linux Lite users, it's just some interesting information for those who like to tinker.
