The router normally just works with the password.  Do I need to manually assign it's id in the settings somewhere as well?

Yea I did, like I wrote in my topic post the wifi connects fine and the signal shows as strong the whole time, but internet won't work past two seconds after it initially connects.

it can be power saving mode, it suspends power to the usb and this kills the wifi/drops connection.

There are some ways to solve it, but I am unsure how to solve it.

I re-read your post and have two other suggestions.
I had similar problems in the past with disconnections "on usage".
1. Try temporarily disabling your WiFi encryption, sometines WPA2 encryption is not fully compatible between routers and workstation and disconnects upon transfert "load". Or using WEP instead for testing purpose.
2. On a similar subject, but this one dates back to the first "high-speed" internet days. Check your MTU seeting in router and also card settings. Same with Jumbo packet settings. I have seen, different configs make the connection drop or slow down to a crawl maknig pages timeout or be innaccessible.

Do you have a second browser installed to the system?  If so, does that one work?  If you don't, install another browser and see if problem is only with Firefox.  (You can delete/uninstall it later if don't want to keep it.)  Go to Menu -> System -> Lite Software, then install the Chromium browser.  After install, find it under Internet section of Menu and see if it works.


If you discover that problem is only with Firefox then maybe you're experiencing same thing that I did just a few days ago -- other browsers worked, but not Firefox.  For me solution was to follow instructions on this page to disable both IPv6 and DNS Prefetching.  Try that and see if it straightens out problem for you too.


P.s.  Problems for me happened after recent update to Firefox.  Was working fine before the update.

Have you unplugged and reset your router yet? They need to be unplugged for about a minute sometimes to straighten them out.

Thanks for the help and suggestion guys. But I gave up and installed Lubuntu on this PC, wifi works fine now. Oh well can't fix everything all the time.

i looked through this just now. Compare your 15 character macc address in Lubuntu with the logical name you listed before for your wifi collection. I have a feeling ndiswrapper was not completely installed before you installed the drivers in LL.

Also out of curiosity are you on 17.xx Lubu?
