Is Linux Lite 1.0.0 too old?
#1
After 50cm. of snow I felt like a snow day project. The first LL I used was 1.0.8, and now using 2.8. But for fun I downloaded 1.0.0 to 1.0.6 to try on an Asus netbook & a Lenovo 3.0mhz computer. Perfect, fast installation in both cases using Linux lite 1.0.0. My question is, are there any working repositories for this OS? Just so everyone knows, it isn't devastating if there aren't. And yes, I understand this is a 3 1/2 year old OS. But I'm thinking of keeping it on the netbook. I never saw an Intel atom, 1gb memory netbook run that fast. I can & did (sudo install) the latest version of Firefox, UFW firewall, Firejail & Synaptic package manager. The only problem is on repositories. I keep geting '404 -ed'. Are there any working repositories for Linux Lite 1.0.0 to 1.0.4? I would like to say that even though we're up to version 2.8, with 3.0 coming this summer, version 1.0.0 is still a mighty fine OS. It's fun to go back to the original & you can see why the OS caught on.

Short answer, yes its way to old. Long answer... its ooooooooooooooooooooold. And the repo's are no longer online at all. Given the sheer number of reasons not to use this older version... I'd strongly suggest avoiding it for anything that has network access.

That said... it's fun to hack around... never let some random guy online stop you.
The Truth is out there.

Thanks for the answer. I shifted the computer to another room & am going to use it as a media box. Videos & music. I was playing some mp3's on it with Audacious. Checking my system resources the Lenovo (3.0 Mhz & 3gb memory) was using 153mb of resources. Had a hard time not laughing. I think the CPU usage was 0.6%. You can't even get a Windows OS to burp for 153mb. As I said, not heartbroken, but I'm still going to keep it around for a while - just offline. Thanks again for a quick response, it's very appreciated. It really is a fun older OS to play around with.

He'll need to install wine for it to work though! If he goes to the website and installs wine or if ver1 has a linux lite software built in app (maybe it won't work due to no repo availability)

I DL'd it and it's an exe program.
I'v been bashing Windows way before Microsoft.....

@Ottowagrant, If it is of any interest I run the latest LL2.8 on two Asus netbooks - 901 Atom processor+1GB ram and 701SD with Celeron processor+1GB ram. Search the Hardware database for full specs as I do not use the SSD in the 901 as its too small.
1) Lenovo T520 i5 LL3.8 8GB ram, fast & stable
2) Medion P4 32bit LL3.8 1GB ram, quite fast & stable
3) eeePC 901 32bit LL3.8 1GB ram, fast & stable
4) eeePC 701 32bit LL3.8 1GB ram, slower & stable but small and light enough to travel with me to New Zealand when visiting family in Blenheim.

I said might and it is up to the user on how to apply the .exe in wine, playonlinux, whatever. Just alternatives.

I posted to get the latest supported stuff. But with little effort on my part

I think forum member AVJ has an Intel Atom processor with 1GB of RAM, and he runs Linux Lite 2.8 32bit.  So it might run on your machine, too.  If performance is still an issue at that point, consider an even lighter distro.  Perhaps something running the LXDE desktop environment like LXLE.
