You COULD use this, but to do so involves extra steps, and may not address any requirements (dependencies) the program may have.

This is the one to go with. You can download it, right-click on it, and select 'Open with GDebi Package Installer'. You may still experience dependency issues, but they are less frequent using GDebi. If available there, Install/Remove Software (aka Synaptic Package Manager, or Synaptic) is the best way to install .DEB files.

RPM files are the other standard package format for Linux, for Red Hat Linux and its derivatives. You don't want to use these.

There ARE utilities that convert back and forth between .DEB and .RPM, but their performance is questionable. Besides, most software producers these days build packages in both formats...
