[SOLVED] Custom Avatar for the Forum?
#1
Ok -- I'm lost!

I can't seem to figure out how to setup a custom avatar for my profile on the forum.  Want to change from the default penquin I picked to something else.  Anyone have any idea how to do that?  And is it possible to upload an image to imgur and link to that for this purpose?

Thanks.

Does this work?

Profile > Forum Profile > Personalized Picture > Upload an Avatar

I added avatar using the method Scott has described.

If you tick the radio button 'specify an avatar by URL' , instead of upload an avatar you can then add in the url of an avatar.

Thanks guys.

Somehow I didn't see that before.  (I'm a moron.)

Tried linking to uploaded image on imgur, but didn't work for some reason.  (Probably because I'm a moron.)  So, just uploaded it from computer.

Whoa. More likely you were just distracted typing an answer to someone's question or creating a new piece of documentation.

@Scott(0),

Actually, I'm one of those people who's ok with complicated stuff, but forget it when it comes to simple.  Here's a perfect example from another thread:

How do you view PM's you have sent in this forum?

Fairly simple, right?  Well ukbrian's not alone.  It took me a while to figure that out too.

Figure out a computer problem?  Yes, I can usually do that.  Simpler things like cell phones (beyond basic phone calls), TV remotes, program a VCR (in the old days)? Forget it - I'm hopeless.

One of the varied lines of work I've done over the years has been building/installing high-end custom furniture and cabinetry.  It was kind of a source of amusement with co-workers and bosses that if something was particularly complicated and difficult -- they'd give it to me to find a way to make it work.  If it was simple, I'd inevitably miss the easy way to get it done and instead find a way to make it complicated.

So, I am a bit of a moron when it comes to simple stuff.

P.s.  This stupid avatar thing is something I've tried multiple times over the last year.  I have no idea how I missed your ridiculously easy method?  So thanks again to you and bitsnpics.

P.s.s.  And note that even with your instructions, I still couldn't link to an uploaded pic.  Don't know what I did wrong, but don't care anymore because simple upload from computer worked.

With rokytnji help I found the button to display my outbox but it displays an empty page even though I've sent 6-7 PM's.

I did manage my avatar though

Took me a while to figure that out.  It turns out it's a two step process.  First, do what he said -- go to top of forum page and choose My Messages -> Read Your Messages.  Then look along top left of message window and go to Messages -> Sent Items.
