hey chris, checking out those sites now.. i don't know what happen i tore the entire house apart trying to find the damn thing because it only crashed occasionally. i swear god is out for me... i never had such clear memory of putting something down on some paper laid out for it and having it vanish and not finding it all day..
so usb-express 2.0 will work on a usb-express you think? i never game this machine is way too old for that, so i just need something that can play movies, i don't own a tv so i'm going through withdraws without a functioning computer so i might try tiger direct, maybe i will stick to a popular name so that linux hopefully supports it. i can't even find the one i had online i must have the number wrong description and price do not match..
literally punched a hole in the wall and damned god for this incident, can things just disappear these days?

Seems to me you really need to know what kind of pci slot you have on your motherboard.
I am coaching presently a good forum buddy on a forum I mod at. He at least gave me
Quote:The only slot available is the PCI-e x16.
Which after some searching and recommends because he also wants
Quote: Can you suggest a cheap board that we can just plug in and have recognized such that when it boots it will come up with the Unity interface so we can log in etc.?
Unity interface is code for UBUNTU 14.04LTS. So after explaining using edgers ppa and failsafe graphics boot and how to install the driver. We were able to come up with off of ebay
Quote:I understood the process in the binarytides site, went to eBay and found a Buy-it-Now ASUS GeForce 7100GS w/ 512MB for $7.99 including shipping.
So now we wait for the card to arrive. If he hits a bump. He knows he can count on me to
coach him through the tight corners. So back to depending on what kind of pci slot you
have available would be a good start.
