Hello,
Linux Lite is wonderful! Makes my Lenovo Thinkpad R61 run fast; is well behaved; doesn't need me to fine tune anything.Formerly used Mint and various other Ubuntu versions. Happy, but there were always compromises.
Main purpose of the R61 is to be my printing station - Gimp to TurboPrint. It was so easy to set up. It just WORKED! (I design on Mac mostly - but love Linux for various things. For a number of years used Linux solely for my design.)
Biggest surprise: No longer having ANY issues with my printer. Nothing glitches. Printer doesn't hesitate to grab small sheets now (It hated 4x6 with a passion for years!). No spitting out partially printed large pages of code occasionally either (1 out of 10 11x14 prints would end up ruined). (I now see messages from Turboprint that I NEVER saw in any other distro)
Good heavens - this is remarkable! THANK YOU to all who created this!
Other uses for this laptop: writing, email, checking my shop, Inkscape, and converting vectors to JPEGs in Gimp.
QUESTION: I need a backup laptop (other one died recently) What models of laptop might fit this?
- Backup print station to the R61.
- Type my health journal* daily (not cloud - saved on disk) .
- Very small and light - maybe like a netbook size? - so I can throw it in my tote bag and go ... and so I can journal late at night without hauling out the heavier laptops.
- Can be old - the R61 is underpowered to most folks but perfectly capable for my needs.
- Lower the budget the better too
- If the screen was nice that would be a bonus - but I won't hold my breath.
- Long battery life (I'm ok with needing to buy a battery)
*Light and small may help me avoid procrastinating journaling because it's "too heavy and I'm too tired". :-) I have a number of rare issues - and I'm supposed to journal - I want to journal - but often times I don't.
Thank you in advance.
