ANBOX - Android apps native on Linux

ANBOX - website link HERE - is a compatibility layer, allowing to run Android apps directly on Linux kernel, thus providing an theoretically extra buffer to the native Linux software infrastructure. That is the promise. The software is still in fairly fresh development. I would like to have it installed, though, as well as when the time comes, it would be nice to have it even preinstalled on the distro, for certain though to be seen in Lite Software centre. If the time ever comes, that is. It would be great pity if it never did. But the point is, I am having issues installing it, which begins with adding the DKMS-based PPA already. I am also afraid the snap system further could give an error, such as it does with the snapstore: x509: certificate signed by unknown authority.

Is there any possibility to actually make the thing more accessible on Ubuntu, for which it is primarily meant, as it seems, assuming after the statement of: "At the moment we only have packages prepared for Ubuntu in a PPA on Launchpad."?

One day we could gain an access to Google Play, at least of an optional choice.

Would this support the cause of open source movement? No.

Would this support the cause of Linux? Indifferent, Android is already Linux kernel.

Would this support diversity and the software infrastructure of GNU/Linux world? By all means.

What about AndrOS, an operating system making Android a desktop?

Thanks Jerry, I do understand the cases I bring up here are unrelated anyhow to Linux Lite the time being, but what I want to do, is to spread the idea. Now that Anbox has been mentioned, some people have learned about it - if they did not know earlier - and maybe someone knows someone who can actually help in development of this software. Maybe one day indeed it will become part of the Linux world, such as WINE is.

There is a new release of this Android project and I've given the 64bit version a whirl in gnome-boxes. Works very well though the installer may confuse Linux users unfamiliar with Android. It is pre-configured to recognize a qemu drive and virtual wifi so a natural fit for g-boxes. I don't use virtual box so I'm not sure of any difficulties installing it there though it is said to work well there too.

Yes, it does "work" in Vbox; it boots and everything but the usability is at the very least not the most desirable, at least with my set up, haven't tried last release thouhg. I recently installed Anbox and couldn't make it work. It always complaint with some error I couldn't figure out how to solve, session manager started just to stop afterwards. I removed it and use my smartphone instead lol

Google playstore, e-mail, browser, all work well for me but I've given the system 4gig of RAM and a twenty gig drive so that may have something to do with it. Works well enough that I may install v10 when it's ready. I'll test some more applications and let you know how it goes.

For Google Play.
A few years ago I installed android-x86 on an old laptop.
Everything worked, including the Google Play Store so I was able to install Ishtar, an interface to manage weapons and armors in the Destiny videogame.
The only thing with this setup is that the first power-hibernating froze the computer. After the first failure it did not crash again until turning off.

Maybe there is something in Google play that you have to run on actual hardware. It's just a theory though. In other words, good luck!

Yeah, thta's probably it. I only gave it 2GB for RAM since my system has 4GB only and an AMD athlon dual core quite old too. Tried in real hardware as well but asked to load the kernel first and wouldn't boot. I didn't know how to proceed from there. I just use my android device instead lol
