I'm pleased to report that the Widget is now reading 'system recently updated', so thank you very much for that. I'll mark as Solved.
Two extra points that might be of interest:
1. The history.log now records the dist-upgrade today only, but never recorded the upgrade from 3.6 to 3.8, nor updates before then after 2-17-11-24 (which was never terminated in the log).
2. When I was taking the actions to reset the Lite Widget in Sessions and Startups it dawned on me that although I had previously unchecked the Widget it was actually still displaying (incorrectly of course). I should have spotted this sooner, my apologies as it may well have shortened the diagnostic process.
