Encrypted disk/Encrypt Home folder option stalls...volume control not working
#1
I've never tried encrypting any Hard Drive or SSD i've ever owned so I thought I'd try it with Linux Lite 3.6 for kicks...I use it everyday and I remembered how easy it seemed to be from the options I saw at install. I ticked the encrypt Volume or Hard Disk and the LVM option also ticked...entered the PW and then got to the section for username and login PW and ticked the encrypt home folder options...everything installs it seems then it gets to the "creating user" part of the progress bar...and it hangs...goes nowhere....i thought maybe it was "encrypting" the drive so I let it do its thing....4 hours later and install from a dvd and USB drive and the same thing...hits the "creating user" part and just stalls....no HDD activity at all. So i tried Mint 18.3 with the exact same options and pw's...got to the "creating user" part during install...5 seconds later it gets passed it and in 7 minutes or less I have a newly installed mint with disk encryption and home folder encryption.

what could be the issue? is this a bug? could it be the laptop i'm using? it's an older 2007-2009 hp but it took mint 18.3 just fine with an SSD...works perfect...pops right along

also...this is probably the most common issue amongst the lubuntu/ubuntu issues in that...the volume control icon has never worked...i go into the audio properties and enable the hdmi and that part is fine...i can control youtube with their players volume control or the audio properties in alsa/pavucontrol...i've tried every trick that i've come across online to get it working to no avail...uninstalling...reinstalling....going into the taskbar properties and adding another volume control icon...zip....using an athlon 5350 mini pc to no avail...lite or mint seem to be the only distro's that let this little pc move right along...others seem to slow it down...i could just open pavucontrol/alsa and volume up or down that way but for insight...i thought i'd see if I'm missing something simple to get the volume icon working again

neither one of these issues is a deal breaker....the encrypting drive thing is just something i came across and thought it needed a heads up...the volume is just annoying but i'll live if it doesn't work

thanks
