DVD player won't play
#11
Probably a dumb question, but did you install the "Restricted Extras" needed to play DVDs?

If not sure, go to Menu -> System -> Lite Software -> Install Software, then scroll down to "Restricted Extras" and see if it shows as "not installed".  If so, install it and you should be able to play DVDs.

You shouldn't need to, we offer full DVD support ootb.

There is no dumb question, there are so many things to consider and cant remember them all when solving a problem. Yes I did go to the Lite Software and install the "Restricted Extras" early when I started this. And Yes I did go to the Disk Manager and play with the auto and mount settings. But nothing worked, for some reason Linux Lite wont Recognize the DVD player. Been on it all day, tired now. Looks like gonna have to go back to Vista install, which it will take half a day just do the updates, lol. I really need my DVD RW player I use it frequently. Maybe I might do a dual boot with linux lite, we see.

Hello,

can you put a cdr, say mp3 files into the dvd drive and see if it opens the folder /displays the files and then try to play one of them, to verify if the dvd drive is working/isolate if the issue is the dvd video media itself ?

The results specify demux failed, it can be encryption/decryption issue ?
Historical info I found in searches to be interesting, the one it made possible to use DVD video at Linux was DeCSS, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeCSS

No luck on the mp3. Instead of doing a Vista/Lixux dual boot, I Decide to use an USB external drive which it works good. No need to waste any more time with the internal DVD player, I will mess with it another day. Smile Thanks for all your suggestions.

Really, the internal DVD is playing, Did a recent update today, put in a music CD for the sake of it, and its playing, seems to be working good, did not do anything but an update today. And yes I did do and update before the dvd issue and did not work. My guest someone upstairs saw an issue and fixed it. WoW Smile Thanks if they did.
